2014 Volkswagen Tiguan Review:
When Volkswagen took the engine from the GTI and put it inside a rugged and spacious compact SUV, it created one of the best vehicles in the segment – the Tiguan. For 2014, Volkswagen has increased the level of available equipment across the Tiguan line, loaded it with new technology and added an even sportier version. See it for yourself here at our dealership.
The 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan (MSRP starting at $22,995) is available in S, SE, SE with Appearance, SEL and new-for-2014 R-Line trims. As the sportiest Tiguan available, the fully loaded R-Line features unique exterior features like 19-inch alloys, black wheel arch extensions, an R-Line rear spoiler and body-colored side skirts. “R-Line” badging also adorns the exterior. Amenities standard or available, depending on trim, include heated windshield-washer nozzles and heated seats (standard on SE and above), a Premium VIII touch-screen sound system, a Fender Premium Audio System, navigation system, panoramic sunroof and keyless access with push-button start.
Powering every Tiguan is an award-winning 2.0-liter TSI®four-cylinder engine that is also found in the Volkswagen GTI. This turbocharged and intercooled four-cylinder produces 200 hp and 207 lb/ft of torque. Shifting duties are handled by either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with “Sport” mode and Tiptronic® manual shifting. The R-Line model comes standard with steering-mounted paddle shifters. The Tiguan comes standard as FWD, but for some added safety and performance Volkswagen’s 4MOTION® AWD system can be added to any automatic transmission model.
Aside from the new R-Line variant, 2014 brings the new VW Car-Net™ system to the Tiguan. This large suite of connected services includes Automatic Crash Notification, roadside assistance and stolen vehicle assistance. On top of those great features, owners also enjoy remote vehicle access, boundary and speed alerts and vehicle health reports. Best of all, these great features can be accessed via a handy smartphone app (currently supports iPhone; Android coming soon).
To provide the best handling performance, the Tiguan has been fitted with an advanced suspension setup. The front suspension features lower control arms and long-travel coil springs all mounted in a lightweight aluminum subframe. The rear suspension consists of a robust four-link system capable of handling the rigors of off-road driving. The four-wheel antilock brake system uses 12.3-inch discs in the front and 11.3-inch disks in the rear.
The brake system is also a vital component of the suite of safety features on the Tiguan with Electronic Brake-pressure Distribution and Hydraulic Brake Assist working to ensure maximum braking force is applied when needed. On top of the outstanding brakes, the Tiguan also comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Anti-Slip Regulation and a Tire Pressure Monitor. Every Tiguan also comes with the Volkswagen Intelligent Crash Response System, which automatically shuts off the fuel pump, unlocks the doors and switches on the hazard lights when a collision is detected. Volkswagen Carefree Maintenance® is standard for two years/25,000 miles and provides no-cost oil changes, tire rotations, multi-point inspections and more.
Whether you want to blaze new trails or just take a relaxing cruise down the highway, the new Tiguan is the perfect companion.
